Cohesion Policy is one of the most important tools of the European Union to achieve the objectives of the “Europe 2020” Strategy. The Economic and Social Cohesion Policy promotes reduced disparities, economic growth, social and territorial cohesion and fosters regional development and competitiveness. For the period 2014-2020, Cohesion Policy has set 11 thematic objectives supporting smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. 

B&S Europe is contributing to the realisation of the objectives of the regional policy by supporting candidate countries in programming, management and  implementation of projects completed under the European Regional Development Fund and the Cohesion Fund.

Regional development programmes aim to reduce regional disparities by supporting economic activities through preparation, appraisal, selection, prioritisation and implementation of sound and mature projects. The final objective is to improve infrastructure according to European standards in order to significantly improve living conditions.

Enhancing the competitiveness of SMEs

Investments in business support cover a wide range of different measures in both convergence and regional competitiveness and employment which are primarily funded by ERDF, with additional support from the ESF.

Improving the efficiency of public administration

Investment in institutional capacity building and efficient public administration is a cornerstone of  mechanisms for improving good policy and programme design, as well as monitoring and evaluation at national regional and local levels.

Improving the environment and modernising transport

It mainly concerns the environmentally sustainable growth-enhancing investments.

Success story

‘Growing together’ International Conference  was conceived as a platform for dialogue and exchange of experiences with the objectives of drawing lessons from the implementation and impact of the Cohesion Policy as well as reflecting on priorities and the future necessary measures to be adopted and voicing expectations for the next period for Member States and candidate countries. 

During this one day event, the conference works gather high level representatives from the European Commission, the European Parliament, Member States, Turkey and other candidate countries so as to trigger the most relevant European directions, multipliable achievements and practical recommendations for the future. 

The exchange of experience and expertise at the Conference helped widen the perspective of policy makers and improve practitioners’ capacity to implement Cohesion Policy and IPA-II in the best possible way.
