USA: “Women on the Hill” event

The EU Delegation in Washington requested B&S Europe to move forward planning an event on Capitol Hill to coincide with International Women’s Day last month in the framework of our project in Washington for EU Policy and Outreach Partnership in the USA.

The project’s objective is to provide support for the achievement of the EU’s policy objectives through strategic public diplomacy activities in the United States that engage meaningfully with targeted audiences and stakeholders to reinforce mutual understanding and knowledge, this includes organizing events for the Representatives and Senators on Capitol Hill.

More precisely, the “Women on the Hill” event was a discussion about the challenges women face in campaigns and in elected office on both sides of the Atlantic featuring Deputy Head of Mission Caroline Vicini and U.S. Representative Debbie Dingell (D-Michigan).

Fifty people participated in the 7:30 a.m. breakfast discussion on Capitol Hill. The participant turnover was a bit junior, but this was precisely the crowd that the EU was also looking to engage in this case – the up and coming political class! Anecdotally, participants commented on the number of men who showed for a “women’s event,” which showed we achieved the goal of increasing gender parity for the conversation!
