Network of networks: enhancing the cooperation between MPA’s Associations
The Transatlantic Maritime Protected Areas (MPAs) Networks project, launched by the European Commission in 2016 and implemented by the consortium led by B&S Europe, is hosting their second big workshop in Tenerife. Between the 19 and 21st July, representatives of the main networks of MPA managers are meeting at the Oceanographic Centre of Canary Island, with the aim at improving cooperation between networks.
This is the second twinning project included in the 2-years Transatlantic MPA Network Project (you can find further information here). Partners include four regional networks of MPA Managers from the Caribbean (CaMPAN), Mediterranean (MedPAN), North America (NAMPAN) and West Africa (RAMPAO). Also two national institutions working with MPA networks such as the French Agency for Biodiversity and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and the Environment through the Biodiversity Foundation from Spain, joined the twinning.
During the workshop, the different attendees will divide in several working groups, tackling the following issues: Financing, influencing policy, sharing information and tools, and building capacity through networking. The results of this workshop and the twinning project will be shared in the final Workshop which will be held in December in Brussels.
