Macedonia: Training on Preventing Corruption in Public Procurement and in Sports


Last week in Macedonia: Investigators and analysts from the relevant departments within the Ministry of Interior, State Commission for Prevention of Corruption, Public Revenue Office and the Public Prosecution attended the three-days training on Proving Corruption in Public Procurement and in Sports, that in the period from 27 February to 1 March 2018 was hosted by the EU-funded project for the “Fight against Organised Crime and Corruption”.

Sport is a big phenomenon of today, commonly associated with great humanistic values and healthy competition, bringing numerous benefits to individuals and societies. Regrettably, it is also connected with dirty business, doping, corruption and violence. Dealing with these challenges requires specialised approach and enhanced cooperation among institutions in the investigation of sport and related procurement fraud.

Throughout the training modules, reference was made to vital indicators of sport and procurement fraud, relevant law and corruption characteristics, supported by real life case examples. The wide range of experiences within the training group were particularly valuable to the session on investigation strategy
