Important week of negotiations in the Pacific for the European Union
This week, B&S Europe is supporting DG DEVCO and, more concretely, the European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Mr Neven Mimica, in his meetings around the Pacific countries and Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs).
There are 3 important points in his agenda, the first 2 ones in Samoa, and the third one in French Polynesia. The first one is the future of the ACP relations. It is because of this that the EU is co-hosting, together with the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat and Samoa, the Pacific ACP - EU High Level Dialogue on Post-Cotonou.
The EU staff, led by Mr. Mimica, is meeting with the different countries of the region (in the picture, bilateral meeting with Nauru, PACP Chair, and the PIFS), to set the framework of collaboration and agreements with each state and with the region itself. On the 26 the ACP Post Cotonou Dialogue will be held.
Also, on the 26th afternoon, the official presentation of the Spotlight Initiative will be held, a program funded by the EU and managed by UN with a clear objective: to eradicate gender violence and violence against women.
On the 27th, the Commissioner and his crew is travelling to French Polynesia to host the EU-OCT Forum, which will be held on the 1st March. A forum that this year is more relevant than ever, with 12 of the 25 overseas countries and territories linked to the United Kingdom and the BREXIT.
An intensive and interesting week for the Commissioner and for B&S Europe's Events and Outreach department!
